The 9 Most Iconic Burt's Bees Products, In Honor Of The Late Burt Shavitz
If you've ever bought a tin of Burt's Bees ointment or lotion, or even just stepped in a drugstore, you probably recognize Burt Shavitz's bearded face on the label. To much sadness, the 80-year-old co-founder of Burt's Bees passed away due to respiratory complications. Shavitz co-founded Burt's Bees in the '80s after experimenting with beekeeping at his home in Maine. He and fellow founder Roxanne Quimby started by producing simple wax candles until the brand progressed into a full-blown beauty brand that was eventually bought by Clorox in 2007.
Besides bringing the cult classic chapstick we all know and love to the world, Shavitz also left an iconic legacy behind. In memoriam of the late beekeeper, the Burt's Bees website posted the following message:
"Burt Shavitz, our co-founder and namesake, has left for greener fields and wilder woods. We remember him as a bearded, free-spirited Maine man, a beekeeper, a wisecracker, a lover of golden retrievers and his land. Above all, he taught us to never lose sight of our relationship with nature. Thanks for everything, Burt. You will live in our hearts forever."
It's always sad when a beauty legend passes, but it's a comfort to know we'll always have the products to last for eternity. BRB while I go cry into some tissues and invest in a pack of minty chapstick and nourishing milk body lotion.
If you feel inspired to do the same, here's a look back at Burt's Bees most iconic and popular products over the years. Rest in peace, Burt.
