Everyone loves a good inspirational quote. Contemporary readers in need of some literary motivation are in luck: Cheryl Strayed's Brave Enough, due out October 27, will feature more than one hundred of the writer's most insightful tidbits. The quotes will be culled from a range of Strayed's writing, including her debut novel Torch, her nonfiction collection Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life From Dear Sugar, and, of course, her bestselling memoir Wild, for which Reese Witherspoon earned an Oscar nom for her role in the movie adaptation.
According to a press release from Knopf, Strayed's publisher, the collection aims to highlight Strayed's "wisdom, courage, and outspoken humor." Strayed herself writes that Brave Enough is intended to "be a book of yes." The writer adds:
I think of quotes as mini-instruction manuals for the soul. It’s my appreciation for their very usefulness that compelled me to put together this book. Not because I believe in my own sagacity, but because I believe in the power of words to help us reset our intentions, clarify our thoughts, and create a counter-narrative to the voice of doubt many of us have murmuring in our heads. The one that says You can’t, you won’t, you shouldn’t have.
