Charlie Le Mindu Had A Hair-Raising Couture Show

by Emily Kirkpatrick

Charlie Le Mindu is the king of fantastical, out-of-this-world hair creations that often find their way onto the pages of high fashion magazines and avant garde catwalks. But Le Mindu's Fall-Winter 2015 collection just might feature his most spectacular wigs to date. The designer is undoubtedly taking weaves into new realms, giving them a sci-fi edge by creating spectacular hair-laden bodysuits and masks. He showed his fantastical "haute coiffure" collection at the famous Crazy Horse in Paris with an S&M-themed burlesque show and a performance by the one and only Peaches.

The looks themselves feature huge headpieces and mouth coverings with ponytail loin clothes in every hue of blonde. The results lie somewhere between showgirl and Star Wars with a decidedly Cousin It influence over the whole affair. Le Mindu's Fall collection shows a welcome return to the type of kinky drag creations that made him famous. In other words, a total about-face from his much maligned and poorly conceived Spring collection which debuted in a controversial video where Le Mindu sings in blackface surrounded by a contingent of white models wearing afro wigs and styled to look like dogs.

While these photos do more than words ever could to demonstrate precisely what makes Le Mindu's creations just so stunning, it seems like this event was one of those increasingly rare occasions where you truly just had to be there.
