Nikki Reed Is Coming To 'Sleepy Hollow'
Sleepy Hollow fans: prepare to forget everything you think you know about American history, or at least, be ready to suspend your disbelief. Nikki Reed is coming to Sleepy Hollow on FOX as a series regular, and, somewhat surprisingly, she'll be playing Betsy Ross, seamstress of the American flag. You might know Reed from her roles in Twilight and 13,or from her real-life, vampire fandom-uniting relationship with fellow TV vampire Ian Somerhalder, and if you do, she might seems like an unlikely choice for the role of America's first sweetheart. Sleepy Hollow co-creator and executive producer Len Wiseman knows what you might be thinking, and he suggests you throw out any ideas about Betsy Ross that came from your middle school history textbook.
Wiseman told the Hollywood Reporter, “We are all very excited to welcome Nikki Reed into the world of Sleepy Hollow. Nikki’s the perfect choice to bring a smart and sexy edge to our show’s twisted version of American icon, Betsy Ross.” Reportedly, the new Betsy Ross "moonlights as a secret operative for George Washington," Entertainment Weekly reports, and also has a romantic history with Ichabod Crane played by Tom Mison.
According to TV Line, producers describe Reed's character as, "more Angelina Jolie than frumpy Martha Stewart — a kickass Mrs. Smith to Ichabod Crane’s Mr. Smith. … [Betsy] is ruthless, smart and fearless, adjusting to blend in to whatever the situation demands, from demure handmaiden to honeypot to cutthroat spy." If you're still not convinced that Reed is a great casting choice, here's why she's perfect for the role.
She can play the girl next door
Wholesome and sweet.
Or a total badass
That escalated quickly.
She's a rebel...
She has no cause, and no chill.
...with perfect hair
Is that not a requirement for playing Betsy Ross? It should be.
She's equal parts mysterious...
Serving that Angelina Jolie face.
...and playful
Introducing the new, improved Betsy Ross.
She's like, really pretty
Why is no one talking about this?? She's perfect.
And she can bring the drama
This isn't the Betsy Ross you read about in elementary school.
Most importantly, she has that American flag vibe going for her
Like the Statue of Liberty in human form.
