These Pet Foods Were Recalled For A Scary Reason

Two pet food companies have discovered Listeria in their products, so you might want to check what you're feeding your furry friends. Stella and Chewy's and Vital Essentials have recalled pet food products after some tested positive for Listeria. According to the FDA, the bacteria was found in Stella and Chewy's Chicken Freeze-Dried Dinner Patties for Dogs during a routine inspection. It was detected in samples of Vital Essentials's frozen beef tripe products during a review by an independent lab. Both companies voluntarily recalled their pet foods.

There have been no reported illnesses from the pet foods yet. While Listeria infections in healthy cats and dogs aren't common, the bacteria can be dangerous for people handling the potentially contaminated pet foods. According to the FDA, Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young kids, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy adults can still experience short-term symptoms, including high fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. If animals become infected, they will display similar symptoms.

To be safe, Stella and Chewy's recalled everything nationwide from the contaminated lot, Lot #111-15, as well as a few other items. Here are all the Stella and Chewy's products that were recalled for Listeria.
