The Best Way To Shrink Jeans Fast The Next Time Your Favorite Pair Stretches Out And Loses Its Shape
With fall not too far around the corner, jean season is upon us. Maybe your favorite pair has stretched out and lost its shape, but the best way to shrink jeans will have you ready to rock them again in no time. Before you give up and donate your beloved denim, try these strategies out!
If you're a die-hard DIY fan, it can be fun to purchase jeans from a thrift store or second-hand shop that will intentionally need tweaking. Grabbing a pair of slightly-too-large boyfriend jeans and then shrinking them down to your body is a great way to get a customized fit.
Oh, and don't forget to properly take care of your jeans. Treat them well and they'll last a lifetime. Here are 5 easy ways to shrink jeans so they fit you just the way you want them to.
1. Turn Up The Heat On Your Washer & Dryer
I personally learned how effective this method is on accident with a pair of skinny jeans that I now have to fiercely wiggle into. EHow explained setting your washer and dryer to their highest heat settings works by shrinking the cotton in your jeans. You might need to repeat the process a few times to really shrink them, but I promise it ultimately will!
2. Boil Those Suckers
Ever overcook a hardboiled egg? Excellent, then you're totally capable of shrinking your jeans in a pot. Heat a large pot of water until it reaches a rolling boil, then toss hour jeans in, making sure they are fully submerged. Leave them boiling for twenty to thirty minutes, drain as much as possible, and then dry on high heat. This method is similar to the whole washer dryer one, but will cause more dramatic shrinkage sooner.
3. Take A Bath
For a super snug fit, wear your jeans in the hottest bath you can tolerate. Once the water cools, get out of the tub, and keep your jeans on until they dry. I know this probably sounds ludicrous, but the jeans will then hug your figure perfectly!
4. Visit A Tailor
If you're not into the whole wearing hot wet jeans around the house until they dry method, going to a tailor is probably your easiest option for getting your jeans to fit right as quickly as possible. Seek out a reputable tailor, take your time with them to make sure you get exactly what you want, and then rock your practically brand new pair of jeans!
5. Try Spot Shrinking
If you only want to shrink, say, the waistband or calf section of jeans, it's totally simple. Mix 3/4 cup hot water with 1/4 cup fabric softener, pour the mixture in a spray bottle, and shake to combine. Cover the entire area you want to shrink with the mixture, and then dry on the highest heat setting possible. In this instance, air drying won't work.
