James & Paula's "Opposites Attract" Remake Rules

by Jennifer Still

One of the best songs to come out of the '80s had to be Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract". Not only was the track itself amazing, but it was accompanied by an iconic video that was so ridiculous, insane, and over-the-top fun and has never been matched since. After all, when else has a female artist paired with a cartoon cat for a romantic pop duet and some killer choreography? Never, that's when. Thankfully, James Corden recognizes the video's legendary status and, while welcoming Abdul to The Late Late Show on Tuesday night, the pair decided to remake the "Opposites Attract" video in all its glory.

It's hard to begin when discussing the hilarity and genius of Corden's reimagined version of this '80s classic. His version of MC Skat Cat is perfection, though admittedly his cat costume more resembles an armadillo than anything feline (and hey, maybe that just makes it funnier). Abdul looks as incredible now as she did nearly 30 years ago, and the set is impeccable. Add in the impressive choreography and you've got yourself a recipe for a damn good remake — or at least one that will leave a smile on your face for the rest of the day.

Here are some of the best moments from their performance (though really, the whole thing is incredible).

It's The Holiday Armadillo... No, Wait, It's MC Skat Cat!

Sorry, I nearly didn't recognize you there. Seeing Corden in costume for the first time is enough to have you cracking up for the rest of the video, but stick with us — it gets even better!

Paula Barely Remembers The Lyrics, But She Looks Amazing

I mean, it's been 27 years, can you blame her? She pulls it back together even if she is a pace or two behind the music, but she's so fierce, it doesn't even matter. Is it possible she looks even better than she did in '88?

Can Corden Join Cats On Broadway?

I mean, he's got the preening down to an art, truly — he could easily take on the role of Skimbleshanks, right? He's already done Broadway, so he's a natural on stage. Let's make this happen, people!

Uh Oh, Check Out These Moves

Now it's about to get serious. You know the choreography is on its way — you can just taste it. Corden's getting warmed up...

Check Out That Fancy Footwork!

I told you! I had no idea Corden could move like this, and he has my complete and total respect, particularly because I'm completely uncoordinated, myself.

Much Commitment, Such Moves!

I don't know why I love this part so much, but I do. The silk sheets! The synchronized movements! It's delicious!

More Dancing!

They've gone all Saturday Night Fever on us, and I love it. I think this is my new favorite thing. Like, in the world.

Basically, you need to watch the entire thing immediately.
