How Did Beyoncé & Gwyneth Become Friends?

by Jaclyn Anglis

Beyoncé and Gwyneth Paltrow are a friendship match made in Hollywood heaven. Although the two have very different career paths, they both have brilliantly cultivated larger-than-life personas and elegant, decadent lifestyles most of us can only dream of. When these superstar mothers and entertainers revealed they were at BFF status, they brought everyone's #squadgoals to a whole new level. But since they are both different types of celebrities, some fans might be wondering how Beyoncé and Gwyneth Paltrow met.

Paltrow revealed on Howard Stern's radio show in January 2015 that she first met Beyoncé, and her husband Jay Z, at a charity event in New York several years ago when she was still married to Chris Martin. The actress said she and Martin became fast friends with the couple. She admitted that she normally does not become close with people that soon after meeting them, but in this case, she vibed with the pair. "They're the greatest people," she said of the power couple. "They are funny and sweet and self-aware and really intelligent."

So, how close are they? Close enough that she was able to call them up after #ElevatorGate last year and live to tell the tale. Paltrow said she now considers them both her best friends, along with Cameron Diaz.

Paltrow is eager to dish about her friendship with Queen B whenever possible and never holds back. Back in 2011, she bragged about Bey in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, revealing Beyoncé gave her advice for her role as a singer in Country Strong. "Beyoncé is the most talented human being on the planet," she said. "She has so much mastery over what she does. It's not even confidence — it's on a whole other level. It's mind-blowing. I watched her [perform] a lot to see how she did it, and I was like 'Sh*t! I can’t do that!'"

Likewise, Bey has gushed publicly about Paltrow, and revealed she even got some good parenting tips from her, particularly when it came to shielding Blue Ivy from the celebrity spotlight. "She is incredible, she's a great friend on every level," Beyoncé told E! News. "I think for us, protecting our daughters is so important and… keeping things on our own terms, so I will still be protective and make sure [Blue Ivy] has a childhood and a great time."

Beyoncé may have even crashed at Goop's place during her On The Run tour last year. Nothing like a best friend sleepover, right? Potential best friends, take notes.
