A 'Cats' Movie?!?

Full disclosure: When I was seven I spent copious amounts of time cuddled up in my Aladdin comforter watching the VHS of Cats the Musical Filmed Live On Stage. It was my favorite thing. It was a dark time. Now either the darkness is returning to us or the heavens have answered our prayers, because Andrew Lloyd Webber says a Cats movie could be a thing that happens. Prepare yourselves.

Grizabella, Deuteronomy, Bustopher Jones, Rum Tum Tugger — get ready for a whole lotta Spandex to come crashing back into pop culture consciousness. According to an interview Webber had recently with Daily Mail, Universal “…has now got Cats out of the drawer in which they locked it years ago when they bought the rights and suddenly they’re talking about a film.”

So far we know literally nothing about what direction Universal might be taking its feline film rights, we just know that they're reacting to the popularity of movie musicals. If it's films like Frozen they're reacting to in particular it's possible we might get a reprieve from that aforementioned Spandex if they decide to animate the film — which frankly would probably be for the best.

In the meantime, let us take a moment to remember the sexiest of the cats in cats. And yes, I am very sad that I just wrote that sentence. But I mean look at it:
