Few beauty products are as life-changing as dry shampoo. Whether you have fine hair that’s in desperate need of a volumizing boost or you just want to extend the longevity of your blowout for as long as possible, the oil-absorbing spray is truly transformative. And while we all have a special place in our hearts (and our beauty vanities) for dry shampoo, there is perhaps no one who understands the importance of a good dry shampoo more than a professional athlete. Gymnast Suni Lee, a three-time Olympic medalist, has teamed up with the award-winning dry shampoo brand Batiste to help introduce its latest launches — a Sweat Activated Dry Shampoo and a Touch Activated Dry Shampoo. Both of the dry shampoos use an encapsulated fragrance technology that’s activated via your lifestyle, and work to absorb excess oil and release bursts of fragrance throughout the day.

Fast Facts:

  • Key benefits: absorbs excess oil and releases fragrance as you sweat
  • Fragrance notes: pear, green apple, pineapple
  • Suitable for all hair types and colors

“The Sweat Activated Dry Shampoo transforms my post-workout routine, allowing me to transition from intense training sessions to my next activity without the need for a hair wash,” says Lee of how she uses the dry shampoo while training to compete for a spot on Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Designed to work while you workout, the dry shampoo contains rice starch to absorb excess oil, but it also utilizes Batiste’s breakthrough scent-releasing technology. Rather than release the fragrance all at once as you spray the dry shampoo through your hair, the fragrance molecules in the dry shampoo use an encapsulated delivery system that reactivates when you sweat to release its notes of pear, green apple, and pineapple. “No matter how much I sweat, my hair is smelling fresh,” Lee confirmed on her her Instagram.

Fast Facts:

  • Key benefits: absorbs excess oil and releases fragrance when you touch your hair
  • Fragrance notes: black cherry, bergamot, berry, vanilla
  • Suitable for all hair types and colors

“On my non-training days, the Touch Activated Dry Shampoo is perfect for a quick refresh,” says Lee. Created for those who aren’t hitting the gym, the Batiste Touch Activated Dry Shampoo takes that same technology mentioned earlier but it gets triggered in a different way. Instead of releasing bursts of the fragrance while you sweat, this one is activated every time you touch your hair for up to 24 hours. The fragrance itself has also been switched up, with notes like black cherry, red berries, and vanilla.

Dry Shampoo Tips

With either Batiste formula (and really any dry shampoo out there), how you spray it is key when it comes to getting a natural finish versus one that looks chalky. First, you always want to give the bottle a good shake to ensure that all of the ingredients inside are evenly distributed and less likely to leave you with a powdery residue. Then, you’ll want to work in sections, spraying the dry shampoo towards your roots and holding the bottle a solid 12 inches away from your hair (again, to minimize being left with visible white residue). To finish up, you want to give the dry shampoo a minute or two to sit and absorb the grease before using your fingers or a brush to massage the remaining product into your hair.
