If you’re anything like me, you pour your focus (and your funds) into your skin care, and leave your hair with a considerably less involved routine. That’s all fine and dandy at first, but after a while — and especially if your hair is color-treated or you frequently use hot styling tools — you may start to notice that your shampoo, conditioner, and occasional mask combo isn’t cutting it. Luckily, there have never been more options geared toward hair and scalp health. But if you’re not sure where to start, Tara’s Sage + Multivitamin Age-Well System was formulated to give you fuller, glossier, and overall healthier hair, without a lengthy list of steps. In fact, the comprehensive set includes just three steps: shampoo, conditioner, and a scalp serum.

Ahead, we’re diving into how the three-product system works, as well as the hero ingredients behind its benefits.

About Tara’s 3-Step Hair System

Each of the products in Tara’s Sage + Multivitamin Age-Well System can be used separately, but together, the shampoo, conditioner, and serum target scalp and hair health in a more enhanced way. First, it covers the hair care basics of gently cleansing and restoring moisture to reduce breakage, minimize frizz, and boost shine. But Tara takes things a step further with its peptide- and antioxidant-rich formulas that it claims are capable of increasing keratin production for stronger hair, reducing oxidative stress to promote thicker hair, and preserving your hair’s pigment to help fight unwanted grays.

Also important to note, all of the products in Tara’s Age-Well System were designed to work on all hair types, as well as on chemically and color-treated hair. Formulated by an all-female, in-house chemist team, Tara’s products are cruelty-free and free from potentially irritating ingredients like sulfates, silicones, and parabens, too.

The Science Behind The System

While there are some ingredients that are unique to each product in the Tara Sage + Multivitamin Age-Well System, the shampoo, conditioner, and scalp serum are all powered by the same active ingredients. Chief among them (and right in the collection’s name) is sage extract, which contains vitamins that support keratin production for stronger hair and helps improve blood circulation to the scalp for potential hair growth benefits. It’s also thought to help prevent graying by encouraging melanin production, which gives hair its color, and by providing antioxidants to neutralize free radicals that cause oxidative stress (which in turn contributes to gray hair).

Both the shampoo and the conditioner contain panthenol to assist with hydrating and smoothing the hair, while the conditioner includes extra nourishing ingredients like olive oil and grapeseed oil. But it’s the serum that’s especially packed with active ingredients aimed at combating signs of hair aging and supporting stronger hair from the root. In addition to vitamins A, E, and C, the serum contains red clover flower extract to stimulate hair growth and potentially delay hair graying by supporting melanin synthesis. The fast-absorbing, non-greasy serum is also formulated with hair-thickening peptides and coenzyme Q10 to further protect against oxidative stress and stimulate keratin production.

How To Use The System

One of the most appealing aspects about the Tara Sage + Multivitamin Age-Well System is that it’s easy to use and doesn’t take up any extra time. Reach for the shampoo and conditioner on your regular wash days (ideally, letting the conditioner sit on the mid-lengths to the ends of your hair for two to three minutes before rinsing), and follow up post-shower with the scalp serum. For the best results, you’ll want to use the serum every day by applying a full pipette of the clear serum at the part line, sides, and back of your scalp and massaging it in.
