Prime Video’s Scarpetta Is Here To Level Up Your Spring Watchlist

The prestige crime thriller is just what the medical examiner ordered.

An elite TV lineup thrives on variety. Sometimes you feel like watching a reliable comfort comedy, sometimes a cerebral drama, and sometimes a good old-fashioned bodice-ripper. But once in a while, a powerhouse series comes along that makes you want to clear your calendar, put your phone on Do Not Disturb, and take a seat. And trust me, you will want to be fully seated for Prime Video’s star-studded crime thriller Scarpetta, which drops all eight binge-worthy episodes on March 11.

Nicole Kidman stars as forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta, a brilliant medical examiner who prides herself on solving crimes and bringing justice to the murder victims she studies. When her world is rocked by the possibility that she convicted the wrong person in a career-defining case 27 years earlier, Dr. Scarpetta must uncover the truth to catch the real killer, and clear her conscience in the process.

The first season — Prime Video already ordered two, so stock up on the good popcorn — interweaves two distinct timelines, giving Scarpetta the double helix structure of a DNA strand. Each episode jumps back and forth between 1998 and 2025 as we watch the doctor and her colleagues unravel the clues to parallel murders in the past and present.

The crimes are high stakes both personally and professionally for Scarpetta, who navigates her work-life balance with decidedly less clinical precision than she brings to her lab work, and who better to play a strong, hyper-competent woman in psychological turmoil than icon Nicole Kidman?

Part edge-of-your-seat thriller, part family psychodrama, Scarpetta is pure prestige viewing; the ensemble cast is full of iconic names like Jamie Lee Curtis and Bobby Cannavale. Keep scrolling to get to know both past and present versions of the characters who take this addictive new show into truly legendary territory.

Scarpetta premieres March 11 on Prime Video.
