It’s Time To Embrace The Colors Of Fall With These Four Bold Makeup Looks

By Shyema Azam

This season, fall makeup colors are all about bigger, brighter, bolder. We’re passing on our usual muted palettes. We’re saying goodbye to quiet neutrals. And we’re going big with rich shades and vivid brights. These looks make an impact in the prettiest way — think aquatic blues, swipes of rainbow, and unforgettable shades of red. Painted in hues this inspiring, we aren’t even a little sad about saying “See ya, summer.”

Ready to unleash your inner artiste? The best place to stock up on supplies is (where else?) Ulta Beauty, who we’ve partnered with to bring you these four head-turning looks. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, either. Ulta Beauty is back at it with their 21 Days of Beauty event, so you can land daily beauty steals at 50 percent off from now through September 21. Punctuate your fall boldness with buzzy new products from the coolest brands, and stock up on everything you’ll need to embrace the fresh colors of fall.

Crimson Flush

Double down on rich red lips with crimson cheeks to match. Have a big night out coming up? Try draping the blush up toward your temples and around the orbital bone. It may sound like a lot, but the key to making it look chic is to blend the formula out to a pretty, diffused flush. Try Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick in Extra Saucy for a classic pout, and play up your cheeks with Too Faced Tutti Frutti Cocktail Blush Duo in Like My Melons. Keep the eyes neutral and complementary with a versatile palette like NARS Makeup Your Mind Face Palette; set it all with Urban Decay The Ultimate Brush Off Translucent Setting Powder; and you’ll be ready to hit the town in no time.

Rainbow Strokes

Move the party to your lids with this take on rainbow eyes. The best part about the trend? There are no rules. Line your lashes, create artful shapes, float the color near your brows… or do all of the above, like we did here with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils. Mixing and matching different hues is an unexpected, fun way to shake up your usual liner routine. Add a finishing touch of mascara (try the new IT Cosmetics Lash Blowout Volumizing Mascara), and your masterpiece is complete.

Very Berry

Blackberry, raspberry, elderberry — these decadent tones are a mood. For this day-to-night-friendly interpretation, makeup artist Ashley Victoria used the Too Faced Tutti Frutti Razzle Dazzle Berry Eyeshadow Palette (which, by the way, has a smooth texture that glides on seamlessly). She applied Razzle, a metallic “frozen berry,” on the lids and the matte violet Boys N Berry along the crease. Then, she lined the upper lashes with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Bourbon, a gold-flecked chocolate shade. To finish it off, she swiped on a wash of brown-berry gloss with bareMinerals Gen Nude Metallic Patent Lip Lacquer in Rubellite.

Baby Blues

We’re jumping on the pool-eyes trend with this vivid blue look. Pro tip: If you’re going this bold, “you just have to go for it,” says Victoria. Play with different shades and shapes to avoid veering too ‘80s (unless that’s the goal), and don’t be shy with saturation. Here, Victoria used a flat eyeshadow brush to pat on Ken (a jewel-tone navy) from the PUR x Barbie Endless Possibilities Eyeshadow Palette all the way from the lash line to the crease, building the layers for color. She then swept Backstage (a shimmery indigo) from the Tarte Sugar Rush Goals Goals Goals Eyeshadow Palette along the lower lash line. If you’re trying this look at home, keep a cotton swab handy to shape the perfect wing and dust away any fallout, finish with several coats of mascara, then dive (ba-dum-tss) right into the weekend.
