Now that the fireworks have long since fallen, you're probably thinking that all the holidays are over for the summer, but you're wrong. World Emoji Day is on Jul. 17, and while it might sound insane, people are seriously going to be celebrating it. I know what you're thinking: dedicating a day to a silly little animation is ridiculous. But think about it this way: emojis have served as a profound tool to help people express themselves when they can't find the words to do so. Perspective, right?

Sure, emojis are for entertainment purposes, but think about how much they help us on a day-to-day basis. We're more likely to express how we're feeling with the aid of an emoji than we would be if we had to rely on words alone. Sometimes it's hard to find the courage to be blunt about our feelings — good or bad. Emojis take the pressure off wording and let us get to the point. And for that, we should be grateful.
