8 Foods That Prove Nearly Anything Can Be A Dip With The Right Cracker

Three words: Mac. And. Cheese.

by Paige Tutt

My boyfriend and I have become compulsive snackers during the pandemic.

I knew this would be inevitable when working from home meant putting a desk in my living room, which is approximately six steps from the refrigerator. And even though my boyfriend has a farther “commute” to the kitchen (his desk is in the bedroom), pretty much every day when I pop my head in to say hi, I find him dipping a piece of tortilla into hummus, eating chips and salsa, or snacking on some carrots with a side of dressing.

It’s this unconscious (and somehow constant?) snacking habit that, more than once, has left me with a sudden craving of my own, and nothing but a fridge full of leftovers and a pantry full of mystery ingredients to munch on.

But luckily, I had an epiphany early-on in our quarantine snacking saga: crackers.

I learned that by keeping a selection of simple-but-perfect Town House crackers on-hand (and cleverly hidden from my boyfriend), I was able to transform practically anything into a snack-worthy dip. Tikka masala and Town House Mediterranean Herb Pita Crackers? Leftover lasagna piled high on a crispy black pepper seasoned cracker? I’m starting to feel hunger pangs just thinking about it.

Since I know I’m not the only one who could benefit from a revitalized snack life, I thought it might be fun to highlight some of the unexpected foods that can become next-level dips with the help of the right cracker. Keep reading for some genius ideas, and good luck making it to the end of this article without wishing you had some Town House crackers in your pantry.

You don’t even need a recipe to turn yogurt into a dip; if it’s flavored, grab a salty cracker to compliment the sweetness like Town House® Sea Salt Dipping Thins and snack away. If it’s plain, you can easily transform it into a savory option with some lemon juice, lemon zest, and pepper, or play up the sweetness with a drizzle of honey.

This one is going to sound crazy, but hear me out: Whenever my boyfriend and I order takeout from a restaurant that serves mac and cheese, we’re definitely ordering mac and cheese but always end up with leftovers. A bowl of warm and gooey reheated mac and cheese scooped onto a crispy Town House® Black Pepper Dipping Thin amplifies the cheesy goodness. It should be illegal for something to taste this good!

Remember that mega viral tomato and feta pasta from social media? You couldn’t find feta in any store for weeks after that. I’m drooling thinking about that cheese pull; it’s practically a tomato and feta dip when it comes out of the oven. Subtract the pasta, add in some Town House Mediterranean Herb Pita Crackers and you’ve got a great snack around lunchtime or even a light appetizer before dinner. Easy math!

I don’t know how this happens, but whenever I buy peanut butter, jelly, and bread to make sandwiches, I almost always run out of bread. When you’re in a pinch, you can spread alternating layers of peanut butter and the jelly of your choice in a shallow bowl then pair your sweet creation with salty and satisfying Town House® Sea Salt Dipping Thins. This combo transports me back to playdates where my best friend’s mom would make us peanut butter and jelly crackers as a snack. So yummy, even now, and it only takes a few minutes!

Sure, you could eat leftover chili for lunch and dinner for, like, several days in a row. Or you could repurpose some of your leftovers into a versatile dip! Enjoy the recipe on its own with a side of crunchy crackers, or mix in some favorite toppings like scallions, shredded cheddar, sour cream, or hot sauce to jazz up the flavor profile a bit. How’s that for inspired?

You were the envy of every kid in the cafeteria if you had one of those frosting and cracker snacks in your lunchbox back in the day. Bring the sweet and salty magic back in your life with a mid-afternoon snack break of a stack of Town House® Pita Crackers Sea Salt and fresh container of gooey frosting.

Everybody knows a piping hot bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese are a match made in heaven, but sometimes you’re just not trying to be in the kitchen for an hour to make both happen. Skip the grilled cheese and substitute something that’s just as savory and delicious like these Town House® Black Pepper Dipping Thins that turn a standard bowl of soup into an opportunity for greatness.

Chicken pot pie is essentially dip covered with pie crust, and you won’t be able to change my mind on this one. Be it a homemade, frozen, or restaurant-prepared version, take the savory factor to the next level by pairing this tried-and-true dinner staple with some go-to classic crackers for an instant satisfying, casserole-sized dip for two. (Or one. I’m not here to judge.)
