The Year The World Went Exploring

by Erin Kelly

Prior to April 2020, Talaya George’s idea of travel involved an international flight and a passport. But when the global pandemic hit, much like the rest of the world, she had to look closer to home to satisfy her wanderlust.

Luckily, a quick search for local hikes and parks introduced the Atlanta-based blogger to dozens of hidden gems to explore within an hour of her city.

And just like that, she was hooked.

With a renewed sense of wonder for the world outside her window, George set out on a quest to find the most scenic places in the Southeast and documented her adventures on social media. “I figured if I didn’t know these places existed, I’m sure others didn’t know either,” she tells Bustle.
