5 Creative Ways To Use Micellar Water

by Melanie Richtman

Micellar water swooped in a few years ago to become the makeup remover/cleanser of choice for many people, myself included. But it turns out that it can have many more uses. Just ask celebrity facialist Gina Mari, who shared five ways to use micellar water with us — I can promise you, you'll want to try every single one of them.

Gina Mari's single goal in life is to help people achieve glowing skin (a mission I personally support), and she's recently started working with Lumene, a Finnish skincare brand that uses ingredients from the Arctic and Nordic regions of the globe to create natural products that improve skin's radiance — and who doesn't want that?

Lumene's Lahde Micellar Water, which you can buy online for $8, is Mari's micellar water of choice, thanks to its affordable price tag and hydrating properties. Her tips for using micellar water go far beyond just removing your makeup after a night out (something I've done many, many times) and can be added to enhance any of step of your skincare routine, whether it's incorporating micellar water into a facial or using it to freshen up after a workout.

Here are five ways to use micellar water for clean, glowing skin.

1. To Calm And Refresh Your Eyes

"To refresh the eye area, place two cotton rounds in a small bowl (I use a small espresso cup) and saturate them with Micellar Water," explains Mari. "Put them in the refrigerator for five minutes, then fold them in half and gently place under the eye. After a few minutes your eyes will be brighter and plumped!

2. To Enhance Your Facial

"For a fun facial “treat”, apply the Lumene Hydration Recovery Aerating Gel Mask then soak some gauze in the Micellar Water. Lay the gauze over your face and then cover with a warm face-cloth (I like to add a drop of Juniper berry essential oil to the towel)," says Mari. "Allow the towel to cool and then remove the mask with the saturated gauze. Your skin will have a beautiful and hydrated glow!"

3. To Hydrate Your Skin While Traveling

If you've ever flown on a plane, you know how dried out your skin can get during a long flight. Combat this by putting your favorite micellar water into a travel size spray bottle.

"Misting your skin during a flight will help to fight the dehydration that usually occurs from air travel," explains Mari.

4. To Wake Up Your Skin In The Morning

Instead of washing your face in the morning, quickly cleanse your skin with some micellar water.

"Simply soak a cotton round with the Micellar Water and gently wipe your entire face," says Mari. "The Micellar Water will help to keep your skins’ PH perfectly balanced as opposed to feeling stripped from harsh cleansers."

5. To Freshen Up After The Gym

Dry shampoo isn't the only thing you should have in your gym bag! Keep some micellar water handy so you can freshen up after that barre class.

"Put it in your palms and gently pat on to your face," says Mari. "If you’re prone to 'body breakouts,' pat it on your chest, arms and back as well."

Voila! Getting radiant skin has never been easier.
