Why Season 4 Of 'Broad City' Will Bleep Trump's Name

by Danielle Jackson

Broad City is choosing a pretty unique way to discuss Donald Trump’s presidency – but don’t expect to hear his name. In an episode featured in the Comedy Central show’s upcoming fourth season, Trump’s name will be bleeped out, because, according to what co-creator Ilana Glazer told USA Today, “there's no airtime for this orange [person]."

According to Uproxx, the episode in question deals with Ilana claiming that her “witch powers” are now in jeopardy thanks to the president’s administration. Glazer told USA Today:

"Ilana's 'powers' are decreasing during the current administration because it's just so hard to [orgasm] when you know so many people are in such danger. So Ilana works through her Trump-related [hang-up] and it's wild."

A 90-second trailer for the season was released just over a week ago, and it looks like there’s a small snippet of the episode thrown in towards the end. The clip shows Ilana blurting out a quick “F--k you, Trump” before going continuing on with her attempt to orgasm. Of course, Trump’s name isn’t actually bleeped out here but I’m thinking there’s a possibility that it will be when the episode actually airs.

Glazer and her co-creator Abbi Jacobson previously told USA Today that, after Trump was elected, a good chunk of their upcoming season had to be rewritten.

"We wrote [Season 4] being like, 'Here we go! Hillary for president!' " Glazer said, adding that after "this game-show host became president of our country, we rewrote a lot."

It’s really not much of a shock that some episodes of the fourth season revolved Hillary Clinton winning the presidency. The former Secretary of State was featured in an episode from the most recent season in which Abbi and Ilana had the opportunity to meet her in person. With the way things have changed since her last cameo, it’ll be interesting to see how things play out as the two comedians take on the topic in Season 4.
