Bustle's Most Wanted: Why Kat Von D's Tattoo Liner Will Always Be My Number One
Around 12 or 13, I started flipping through Making Faces by celebrity makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin daily. I was just learning about makeup's seemingly magical powers, and felt completely fascinated by Aucoin's transformation of Lisa Marie Presley into Marilyn Monroe. I practiced a version of that black cat eye every day, so the liquid liner look sort of became my staple in high school and throughout college.
Fast-forward to nearly-30-year-old me and not much has changed. I'm still obsessed with playing around with makeup, still working to perfect my cat eye, and always on the hunt for a liquid liner that will actually stay put. Don't even get me started on the countless liners I've tried that have either rubbed off on my lid throughout the day or gone completely MIA by lunchtime. So when I found Kat Von D's Tattoo Liner ― touting long wear (up to 24 hours) and a precision brush tip ― one day on an epic Sephora trip, I was sold.
Though this liquid liner has been around since 2009, it's still hands-down the best I've ever tried to this day — which is why I (and several other Bustle editors) have deemed it a "forever favorite" when it comes to my tried and true beauty OGs. My fave shade is the dark black "Trooper," and I like that it comes in a thin pen-like shape. I can't stand the liquid liners that you have to paint on oh-so-delicately. This one feels more like a traditional eye pencil and is super easy to maneuver.
Second, it really does stay on. I can apply it before work, wear it all day and then out to dinner, and it won't budge or fade at all. I've even had to do some extra removal after I showered with it on, though it comes off very easily with eye makeup remover. After nearly two decades of searching, I finally found the liquid liner of my dreams. Other liners come and go, but Kat Von D Ink Liner is in our beauty routines to stay.
