This Wish For Carrie Fisher Is Full Of Hope
The shocking news of actor Carrie Fisher's unexpected heart attack en route to Los Angeles on Friday afternoon spread fast. Update: Fisher is reportedly currently in intensive care and her condition remains "unknown," according to Entertainment Tonight. Despite earlier reports, her brother, Todd, told ET, "We certainly do not know her condition, that's why she is in ICU. I'm sure everyone wants to speculate, but now is not the time for that."
Earlier: According to the Associated Press, Fisher is now reportedly in stable condition. Many have taken to Twitter to express their condolences and wishes for a speedy recovery, causing both "Princess Leia" and "Carrie Fisher" to trend on the social media platform. Amongst the sea of tweets, Fisher received well wishes from director Chris Miller, who will be co-directing the upcoming Han Solo standalone film. Using his trademark wit, Miller hit the nail right on the head when it came to vocalizing how Fisher's fans have been feeling since the news broke.
Miller tweeted out: "Come on, Carrie. Keep calm and Carrie on." The tweet made a pun of Fisher's name while invoking the great British phrase, "Keep calm and carry on," a call-to-arms to stay strong during tough times. It's one of the most heartening wishes for Fisher on Twitter and one of the few from Fisher's extended Star Wars family writing messages of hope and love for all to see. In light of the swift public outpouring of worry and hope in the hours following the news, Miller's words feel like a comfort. They also, aptly, feel appropriately feisty, just like Fisher.
Fisher was returning from London, where she was promoting her latest book, The Princess Diarist. As reported by TMZ, Fisher allegedly went into cardiac arrest during her flight. Once the plane landed at LAX, CPR was reportedly performed, and she was rushed to UCLA Medical Center on a ventilator. (Bustle has reached out to Fisher's rep for comment, but has not heard back at this time.) Next, TMZ reported that her daughter, Billie Lourd, and constant canine companion, Gary, arrived shortly thereafter to ostensibly be by Fisher's side. Luckily, as of 7 p.m. EST, AP News reported the actor's brother, Todd Fisher, stated that Fisher's condition was stabilized.
For now, we can all breathe a small sigh of relief and hope that her condition only improves by leaps and bounds as we approach the final days of 2016.
