A former One Directioner is ready for his close up — but not without a special lady on his arm. Singer-turned-actor Harry Styles brought his mother, Anne Twist, to the premiere of his film Dunkirk at the Odeon Leicester Square on Thursday, July 13 in London, England. The war epic directed by Christopher Nolan marks the 23-year-old's acting debut. The smiling star was beaming from ear-to-ear with his mother by his side.

The two share an incredibly close relationship with Styles often acting as his mother's support system in recent months. For instance, Twist praised her son and her daughter, Gemma, in April for tending to his grandfather who struggles with Parkinson's Disease. She told The Sun, "They have been absolutely brilliant. They love him to death and he is so proud of them." The two also stuck together earlier this year during the passing of Twist's husband, Robin.

Of course, the love is mutual. Styles told Manchester's Key 103 radio station that his hit song "Sign Of The Times" brought his mother to tears: "She cried a couple of times which was good, I think that was good."

Naturally, Mama Twist had Styles' back at his movie premiere. U.K. publication The Mirror reports that as the star made his way down the red carpet with his mum, he stopped to sign autographs and poses for photos with his many adoring fans.

Styles stars in the film alongside Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, and Cillian Murphy. The "Kiwi" singer told People magazine he gained more than just better acting skills on set:

"I enjoyed [making the film] very much and it’s important to tell the story — I feel very lucky. I’m a better swimmer than I was when I started! As difficult as it would ever get, we were so aware of what [the real-life veterans] would have gone through."

The up-and-coming actor was cast for the part of Alex by Nolan himself. The award-winning director told Entertainment Tonight that although Styles' casting raised eyebrows in Hollywood due to his lack of experience, he had to "trust his instincts."

"What I was seeing [when he auditioned] was a very charismatic guy who clearly had a truthfulness and a subtlety in his ability to perform as a film actor," Nolan said.

Styles must get his "charisma" from his mama. Twist is always tweeting about how proud she is of her son and often sharing his performances such as his May appearance on "Carpool Karaoke" with James Corden.

As Nolan described Styles' performance as soldier Alex as "very subtle, very truthful, and real," Mama Twist probably just sees Styles as her baby boy chasing his dream. Although Styles' fans will have to wait until July 21 for Dunkirk to officially debut, surely, his beloved mum has already given the film two thumbs up.
