When I walk into MAC Cosmetics at The Grove in Los Angeles, the first thing that catches my eye is a full head of electric blue hair. Underneath this hair is the face of Gabriel Zamora, the famous beauty YouTuber. He, along with fellow beauty influencer Laura Lee, who needs no introduction, are here to discuss their amazing lipstick collaborations with MAC, and I can't wait to pick their brains about it.
When talking about their new lipsticks, both Zamora and Lee share that they wanted to create shades that they both loved, but knew everyone else would love as well. Laura Lee created the perfect pinky nude inspired by her favorite lipsticks, and Gabriel Zamora created a soft, warm neutral pink. Both are perfect for the everyday look, especially for spring and summer. (If you haven't had the chance to check it out, you definitely need to!)
"I kind of would mix together different colors to create the perfect nudey pink and I figured, I have this shot to make my own lipstick, I’m going to make that color I create every day," Lee tells me. With Zamora, his process took a little longer. Like Lee, he wanted to make sure he created a lippie that he loved, but that also worked well with virtually any skin tone. "I wanted to make my obsession everybody else's," he shares.
Like I said, the two lip shades are perfect for spring and summer, and will totally complement the trends that will reign supreme in the warmer months ahead, namely, the no-makeup makeup look. In other words, skin is in! Lee even mentions the increasing popularity of faux freckles and Zamora agreed. "I think skin is coming back and really...embracing those kind of freckles, not having that full coverage or too much foundation, almost wearing just a BB cream or just a powder or just a brow," Zamora tells me.
What are some of Lee and Zamora's go-to tricks for making their makeup stay put in the hot hot heat? They both suggest using BB cream and some oil absorbing powder. "I would bring a pressed setting powder in your bag and just a little sponge to tap, tap, tap and absorb the oils," Lee explains.
If you want to wear more full coverage for a summer party or soiree, "waterproof is the way to go," says Zamora. "As long as your brows are waterproof...everything else comes off and those will stay on, and you’re cute!"
