This loss comes as a shock — how did Bill Paxton die? According to a statement by the actor's family, he died unexpectedly due to complications during surgery. Update: On March 6, TMZ reported that according to a death certificate the publication obtained, Paxton died after a surgery for an aneurysm led to a stroke.

Paxton married Louise Newbury in 1987, and had two children. The family released a statement to the press explaining the loss. “It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery," the statement said, and then went on to acknowledge Paxton's numerous accomplishments. "A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”

The passing is unexpected, as Paxton was starring in the CBS drama Training Day. The actor's son James was recently slated to appear alongside him on the show. In a recent interview with People, Paxton gushed about spending time with his children. Paxton will be missed by Hollywood and family alike.
