What's better than a free burger? A free burger delivered to your door, of course. For those who have made it their personal goal to figure out how to get free Shake Shack gifted unto their waiting hands, I have potentially life-changing news. If you use Postmates, the delivery app beloved by lazy adults across the nation, you and a friend can have free Shake Shack burgers delivered to your respective doors. You get a burger! And you get a burger! We all get burgers!

As always, though, there's a catch. The deal was announced on Monday, Dec. 11, and it lasts through midnight on Sunday, Dec. 17, which means that you have just one day left to snag free stuff. (Cue the dramatic music.) Here's how it works: Current Postmates users will receive a $10 credit toward Shake Shack if they refer a friend to the app — as long as that friend doesn't have a Postmates account yet. According to the Postmates blog, you can do this by tapping your profile button in the top left corner of the app, then tapping Settings. Choose "Invite Friends," which will give you a code to give to the new user.

After the newbie downloads the app (on iOS or Android) and completes their first order, you both get $10 worth of Shake Shack goodies. At the same time, Shake Shack and Postmates get free publicity. It's a beautiful partnership, don't you think?

But wait! There's more. If everyone you know and love has already signed up for Postmates, the app is also waiving delivery fees on all Shake Shack orders through Sunday. According to Business Insider, you need to live within delivery range of a Shake Shack, so the deals are only available in 17 markets across the United States: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, New York City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, and Washington, D.C.

Outside those areas, you'll have to make the trek to a physical Shake Shack location nearby and fork over money to satisfy any burger cravings, unless you can convince that friend of yours to pick up a burger for you.

This isn't the first time free Shake Shack has been graciously bestowed upon the salivating masses. In January, the fast casual chain celebrated the launch of its mobile ordering Shack App by giving a free ShackBurger to everyone who downloaded it before the end of February. According to Food & Wine, that promotion wound up giving away 90,000 free burgers. That's a ton of new users — is it any wonder Postmates decided to get in on the action?

Shake Shack has only existed since 2001, when it started out as a hot dog stand in Madison Square Park. It reopened as a permanent food kiosk in 2004, and the rest was history. While it's younger than other fast casual chains like Panera or Chipotle, Shake Shack has expanded rapidly in a relatively short time. By 2014, it had opened 63 restaurants in the United States (16 of which are in the New York metropolitan area), and it currently has locations in Japan, the United Kingdom, and other countries around the world.

Part of its popularity may stem from the chain's promise to use 100 percent natural Angus beef, with "no hormones and no antibiotics ever." It also serves beer and wine alongside its crinkle cut fries and custard shakes, which is always a draw.

If you're reading this after Sunday, Dec. 17, I'm sorry to say that you missed out on free Shake Shack deliciousness. Given the chain's penchant for promotions, though, there may still be a free ShackBurger in your future if you keep an eye out.
