Is Kourtney Kardashian Kim's Surrogate?
Kim Kardashian has been candid about wanting a third child, and how difficult it would be to carry a child herself, over the past year. On Wednesday, People reported that the star hired a surrogate. If this news is true, is it possible that Kourtney Kardashian is going to be the surrogate? The two have discussed the possibility in the past, but it's more likely that Kim will go in a different direction. Bustle has reached out to reps for Kim, Kourtney, and Kanye West for comment, but has not yet received a response.
The idea of Kourtney carrying Kim's future kids came up on the latest season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. In May, Kris Jenner found out from a fertility doctor that while she no longer has viable eggs, carrying a child is not out of the question. After the realization, Kim asked if she wanted to carry her next kid. Jenner said she wouldn't hesitate if it would be safe, but Kourtney also chimed in some support.
“I already offered myself,” Kim's sister said during the episode. “So, don’t act like you’re the only Mother Theresa in here!”
It wasn't the first time Kim K floated the possibility of one of her sister's acting as the surrogate, and the star has discussed the idea that Kourtney or Khloé could take on that role a few times in the past few months.
After giving birth to Saint West in 2015, Kim opened up in a blog post about suffering from placenta accreta. The condition, which is rare and means the placenta stays attached to the uterus during birth, creates great health risks for future pregnancies. In an episode early in this season of KUWTK , Kim revealed that she'd had a procedure to try and make having a third child possible, but it was unsuccessful and the risk was still too high. She announced that surrogacy was an option she wanted to seriously consider.
"After talking to Kanye, I think that I always knew that surrogacy was an option, but I didn't think it was that realistic of an option," she said in a solo interview on the show. "Now, I feel like that's my reality."
In the season finale, Kim approached Khloé about being the surrogate. Khloé considered it, but ultimately seemed hesitant and thought she might be soon planning a family of her own. Kourtney, on the other hand, already has three kids with Scott Disick, but hasn't mentioned plans to have any more children of her own. In an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in May, Kim did once again mention that Kourtney offered herself as a surrogate.
However, it seems unlikely that Kim will choose either of her sisters for the role. According to E!, the star reportedly used an outside agency to hire the surrogate. It's unlikely that the Kardashian-West family will reveal the identity of this person, if true, although plenty of fans on Twitter are enjoying the chance to claim it's them.
Even if Khloé and Kourtney don't end up as Kim's surrogate, the Kardashian family have plenty of reasons to be excited. With Khloé potentially starting a family, and Kim reportedly planning to have another baby, there are going to be some epic playdates in the future.
