Kyle Richards’ Home Was Burglarized While She Was On Vacation — REPORT
While she was away on vacation in Aspen, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards' home was burglarized, according to TMZ. The Encino home Richards shares with husband Mauricio Umansky was reportedly robbed in the early hours of Thursday, Dec. 28, TMZ reports, and the property was empty as the family was out of town. Law enforcement sources reportedly told TMZ that the robbers took over a million dollars worth of jewelry, which included items owned by Richards, as well as over a hundred thousand dollars worth of watches owned by Umansky. Richards reportedly has a jewelry lockbox, but it isn't known whether or not it was gotten into, according to TMZ. People has also reported that they can confirm the burglary. Bustle has reached out to reps for Richards and Umansky and to the LAPD, but did not receive any responses at the time of publication.
UPDATE: Richards confirmed the home burglary in an interview with Bravo's The Daily Dish.
EARLIER: The home, which TMZ reports was once owned by Motown legend Smokey Robinson, reportedly has a robust security system that includes several surveillance cameras, so law enforcement officials are hopeful they will be able to locate the alleged robbers, the publication reports. According to TMZ the security system was not on when the burglars entered.
A closet sensor did reportedly get triggered at around 1:15 a.m. PT, according to TMZ. It was that closet sensor that alerted law enforcement officials. Sources reportedly told TMZ that the family suspects the robbery was an inside job as the home is being remodeled and a number of people have access to the property. The outlet is also reporting that the robbers seemed to know exactly where to go to find the jewelry as the home did not appear to be ransacked.
Just a few hours before the burglary reportedly occurred, Richards shared a photo to Instagram of her family enjoying their winter holiday vacation. "So happy to be back in beautiful Aspen with loved ones," she captioned the pic.
Richards and Umansky purchased the Encino home in October of this year for $8.25 million, My San Antonio reports. It's a 1.54-acre property, and there's a 10,600 square foot main house with seven bedrooms and eight baths, as well as an 1,600-square-foot guesthouse.
When asked about her decision to leave Beverly Hills, Richards told People that she wasn't looking for a new home, but was "blown away" when she saw the Encino property.
"It was actually one of my husband’s listings," she explained, "and I said to him, 'I wanna go look at this house to look at the floors,' because I was redoing my floors at the time." Richards quickly fell in love with the home. "It's not like anything you would see in Los Angeles normally," the RHOBH star added to People. The couple put their previous Beverly Hills home up on the market earlier in the year.
Richards is known and loved by fans for her role on RHOBH was an original member of the show, which is now in it's eighth season. Her sister Kim Richards was also a cast member during the first five seasons of the show, and had been a guest in the most recent seasons. However, Richards confirmed recently that her sister would not be returning to the current season of the reality show.
In addition, Richards has also authored a book, Life Is Not a Reality Show: Keeping It Real with the Housewife Who Does It All, and recently wrapped production on the first season of her show for Spike TV, American Woman, which is loosely based on her childhood.
While neither Richards nor Umansky has spoken out about the reported burglary yet, knowing how open about their lives they are, if something did go down, they'll be sure to fill fans in when they're ready.
