Oreo Is Mailing Customized Cookies To Lucky Twitter Users

by Lara Rutherford-Morrison

Since May, Oreo has been running its #MyOreoCreation campaign, letting fans propose new, unusual, and sometimes just flat-out bizarre flavor combos for classic Oreo cookies. Now, some of those weird flavors are actually seeing the light of day — Oreo is mailing customized cookies to a few lucky folks who have participated in the campaign. “Glazed Donut Oreos,” anyone?

The standard Oreo is a simple thing: Sweet creamy stuff sandwiched between two chocolate cookies. In recent years, however, the brand has begun experimenting with a wider variety of flavors, releasing dozens of new and unusual options. These limited-edition cookies range from tasty sounding flavors like gingerbread and pumpkin spice to head-scratchers like Swedish Fish. (Just… why?).

You don’t have to be a cookie professional to come up with wacky flavor ideas, and, with the #MyOreoCreation campaign, Oreo-lovers get to make their own suggestions for new varieties. The winner of the contest will get to have his or her cookies sold in stores and receive a cash prize, but some participants are already getting a sweet reward: Prototypes of their Oreo flavors mailed directly to them.

In the last few weeks, Oreo has been shipping out boxes of extremely limited quantities of new flavors — only two cookies at a time. A couple of the prototypes went for a sweet/salty vibe, with Kettle Corn and Chocolate-Covered Pretzel.

Others explored the joys of fried dough. (What does a Beignet Oreo taste like? I am honestly curious.)

A few others added fruit flavors.

And a couple were more thematic. Was there any doubt that we’d be getting a Unicorn Oreo eventually?

If you have an awesome (or insane) idea for a custom Oreo, you can still get in on the action — for another couple of weeks, at least. The #MyOreoCreation campaign ends July 14. To submit your cookie creation, post your idea on Twitter or Instagram, and include the hashtags #MyOreoCreation and #Contest.
