Ruby Rose Discusses Her Character In 'Xander Cage'
Who doesn't love a strong woman who happens to have deadly aim? Maybe that's not the sort of person most of us hang out with IRL, but Ruby Rose's character, Adele Wolff in XXX: Return of Xander Cage definitely seems like a fun person to watch on the big screen. In a behind-the-scenes video, Rose and Xander Cage himself (played by Vin Diesel) discuss Cage's enigmatic "ride-or-die" associate, Wolff. Maybe action movies aren't your thing, but the bond between Diesel and Wolff's character, as well as Wolff's badass exploits of taking part in "douchebag hunting season," specifically those illegally poaching big game (really dude, you want to kill Simba... that's messed up) make it seem like Return of Xander Cage might have something it for everyone.
In the film, Vin Diesel reprises his role as the government operative Xander Cage, who was presumed dead. This time, Cage is racing a new nemesis, Xiang (Donnie Yen) to find "Pandora's Box," an extremely powerful weapon. Cage recruits his "eyes in the skies" Adele Wolff and a few other ragged teammates to get to the box first, but the group quickly finds themselves wrapped up in a mysterious web of government corruption and heinous conspiracies. All the nastiness by higher powers is interesting and all, but the most exciting thing about this movie is definitely Rose's character who she describes as "Xander's road dog."
From Rose's description, it seems that Adele Wolff has a tough shell on the outside but a soft heart of gold... or at least respect for colleagues. As the actor puts it, "she doesn't have a family, she doesn't have friends she doesn't trust anybody. If you're on the right side of her she'll do anything for you." That sort of dynamic is something I can always get behind in a character — it adds intrigue. It also leads to interesting relationships with other characters like Vin Diesel's Cage. In the video, Vin Diesel seems blown away by the "unique" and "rich" bond between the characters and describes it as, "some kind of unbreakable relationship."
Ruby Rose wows in pretty much all her performances (I still can't get over her subtle but powerful work in Orange is the New Black) so it's not that surprising that she's picked up the role of Wolff. Like "there is no sniper like" Wolff there is no actor like Ruby Rose.
If this exclusives gives you a hankering to catch Ruby Rose's performance in XXX:Return of Xander Cage, then you're in luck because the movie hits theaters Jan. 20.
