The Woman Who Mocked Poor People On Instagram Poses With Sheets Of Money & Twitter Can’t Even
It's no secret that U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin and his wife, Louise Linton, enjoy the finer things in life. She regularly tags her designer clothes on Instagram, he uses his position in government to occasionally promote the movies he's producing, and they frequently travel via private jet. But they took it to the next level on Wednesday, when Mnunchin and Linton posed with a giant sheet of money, and the internet had a field day.
Mnuchin and Linton were taking a tour of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to see the production of the new $1 bills, which have the new Secretary's signature on them. They were joined by Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser. The bills will go into circulation next month, according to Bloomberg.
Linton found herself in hot water recently after she mocked an Instagram commenter for being poor. "Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you'd be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours," she wrote. So people thought she might want to rehabilitate her image, but instead it looks like she's leaning into the whole "Disney villain" thing, as one person put it on Twitter.
Here are some of the best reactions to Mnuchin and Linton's photoshoot.
It's True Love
"Find someone who looks at you the way Louise Linton looks at Steve Mnuchin holding a sheet of dollar bills with his name on them," Washington Post reporter Christopher Ingraham wrote.
They Are A Parody Of Themselves
Someone pointed out that they pretty much looked like Halloween costumes of themselves.
It's Better Than A Ring
"She said yes!"
I'll Take That Guac, Thank You
Mnuchin and Linton were obviously headed to Chipotle.
Disney Villain-Chic
"God bless Louise Linton," writer Jesse Berney wrote, "who even after one of the worst PR disasters of the year is unable to stop dressing like a Disney villain."
Or Star Wars-Villain Chic
Someone thought Linton was taking style tips for Kylo Ren.
They Look All Kinds Of Evil
"Why do Louise Linton and Steve Mnuchin look like they're on the way to close down an orphanage?"
Linton Really Loves Money
"Louise Linton holds the great love of her life," someone wrote. "Also pictured, her husband."
Hold My Champagne
Linton clearly doesn't care that much about her reputation as an icy rich woman.
She Didn't Marry Mnuchin For His Charm
"I’m starting to get the feeling that Louise Linton may not have married Steven Mnuchin because of his charm, wit, or rugged good looks," Andrew Weinstein, chair for the Democrat's Lawyers Council, tweeted.
Serving Marie-Antoinette Realness
"Photographer, to Louise Linton," someone wrote, "OK, give me your best 'Let 'em eat cake' face," referring to the former Queen of France's famous quote.
Linton Looked Like Cruella de Vil
A few people compared her to the fur-loving Disney villain.
This Is Pocket Change To Them
"Louise Linton and Steve Mnuchin picking out new sheets for their bed."
Money Is Their Aesthetic
Some people suggested the sheets of $1 bills would be used as decoration for the millionaire's home.
Linton Is In Her Happy Place
"Find somebody who looks at you the way Louise Linton looks at herself holding somebody else's money."
She Didn't Listen To Her Reps
Clearly, Linton went against the advice of her PR reps here and decided to go full-on Bond villain in these photos.
Maybe with the holidays coming up we'll see a photo of Linton and Mnunchin donating money to charity or volunteering their time at a soup kitchen. Interestingly, Linton deleted the photo of her and Mnunchin getting off a private plane in August and has been posting a lot about animal rescue organizations recently, instead of her usual #OOTD posts. So maybe she really is working on her new image.
