'A Wrinkle In Time' Is Setting Up A Big Adventure

by Allie Gemmill

The highly anticipated trailer for A Wrinkle in Time has finally arrived. The first look is amazing, of course, but the song in the Wrinkle in Time trailer also hints at the big adventure ahead for the film's young hero, Meg Murry. The song, which appears to be a cover of the Eurythmics' hit '80s song "Sweet Dreams," is equal parts lullaby and sweeping, epic pop song; the perfect introduction to the strange, beautiful, and enticing world depicted in this first trailer for A Wrinkle in Time. The song itself also appears to hint at the high fantasy elements of this world, which feel like they are out of a dream because of their truly wondrous to look at.

The song begins as an almost otherworldly echo as we see and hear Dr. Alex Murry, Meg's dad (played by Chris Pine), talk about the idea of travelling billions of light years across space and time in as much time as it takes to snap one's fingers. An enticing discovery, right? The lyrics of "Sweet Dreams" begin to play, hauntingly, as we see Meg and her friend, Calvin, as well as her young brother, Charles Wallace, travel to different worlds. The children, aided by the magical beings Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which, have to save Meg's dad from something Mrs. Which calls "the darkness." Meg appears nervous about the adventure ahead, but it looks like she has a damn good team to help her get her father safely back home.

The worlds shown in this trailer look epic and dream-like indeed. Floating stone pathways, huge yellow fields, mountain ranges the loom over grassy, wide-open spaces, and even Mrs. Who's house which is filled from floor to ceiling with books — it's all here in A Wrinkle in Time. Sweet dreams really are made of this and, honestly, who are we to disagree?
