Watch These Performers On New Year's Eve
The year 2016 has been quite an emotional roller coaster and many of us are clamoring to say farewell to the year that gave us Donald Trump and took away so many of our beloved celebrities, from Prince to Leonard Cohen to Carrie Fisher. Here's to hoping 2017 will be at least a little kinder to us. In the interest of being optimistic, I plan on celebrating like a rockstar — by sitting on my couch in sweats as I watch all the New Year's Eve performances on TV specials. (OK, maybe I'll have to DVR a few of them because, you know, the specials air at the same time.)
When it comes to New Year's Eve, people tend to fall firmly into one of two camps — some love to be out and surrounded by people when the clock strikes midnight, while others (*raises my hand*) prefer to experience the festivities in a more low-key manner that doesn't involve putting on heels (or, in my case, taking off my comfy slippers). Luckily for us, TV specials mean we can still enjoy New Year's celebrations without braving the crowds. This year, four separate specials feature musical acts — so, if you're trying to decide which network to watch, check out the performances and it may make your decision a little easier.
Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve (ABC)
Live from Times Square, Mariah Carey will headline Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest. DNCE, Thomas Rett, Gloria Estefan, and the cast of Estefan's Broadway musical On Your Feet! will also perform as part of the festivities.
New Year’s Eve Live With Anderson Cooper And Kathy Griffin (CNN)
Cooper and Griffin will also ring in 2017 from Times Square, but their annual special will feature correspondents in cities including New Orleans, Miami, Dallas, and Nashville. Be sure to keep an eye out for Keith Urban's live performance from Nashville's Jack Daniel’s Music City Midnight.
Pitbull's New Year's Revolution (Fox)
Live from Miami, Pitbull will be joined by co-hosts Queen Latifah and Snoop Dogg. The stellar lineup of performers includes Biz Markie, Salt-N-Pepa, Coolio, Tone Loc, Rob Base, Young MC, and Naughty By Nature. And, based on last year's special, I can't wait for Pitbull himself to take the stage.
New Year's Eve With Carson Daly (NBC)
Daly and co-host Mel B will also be in Times Square when the clock strikes midnight — and, based on the special's line-up, this is one you won't want to miss. It'll include performances from Jennifer Lopez, Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys, and Pentatonix.
Who needs to leave their comfy couch on New Year's Eve when there are so many stellar musical performances on the small screen?
