These Statement Gowns Crushed The SAG Red Carpet
The red carpet is always a good place to make a statement, and sometimes stars knock it out of the park. In fact, some of best gowns at the 2017 SAG Awards were in a category all their own.
Gowns aren't a given on red carpets anymore, and thank goodness. (We see you working that suit, Evan Rachel Wood). Still, they're a classic silhouette and timeless look and can be tricky to nail. Looking elegant, timeless and appropriate for the event is a moving target, but these actors eschewed convention entirely, rocking some of the boldest and most beautiful gowns that any red carpet has ever seen.
Floral patterns, sheer accents, and glitter are huge trends at this SAG Awards, along with diamonds and a natural, fresh glam. When it comes to hair, soft updos and side swept hair reign supreme. These looks are fashion foward, dramatic, and wild in the best possible way.
1. Nicole Kidman
The green, the sheen, the feathers. Where do I begin? The sheer, deep neckline is everything, and this Gucci gown was a true standout on the carpet.
2. Thandie Newton
This gown tells a story (and that story is perhaps inspired by her role in Westworld), and we should all be listening. The rhinestone horses are truly divine.
3. Kate Hudson
Sheer details are a big trend, and the Dior waistband peeking out (along with the floral detail) takes this gown to new heights.
4. Janelle Monae
A bold collar is highlighted with a fun updo, plus tons of quirky details — is there anything Monae can't wear?
5. Michelle Williams
Going for the gold, Michelle? I see you. Get it.
6. Taraji P. Henson
She's got the pose down, and the dress is just detailed enough to feel fresh.
7. Yara Shahidi
The young Black-ish star looked super fun and funky in this striped gown.
These gowns were unusual, wild, and totally awesome. Hopefully we get to see more unique gowns in awards shows to come.
8. Annalise Basso
Mission accomplished. I'm hypnotized by this dress.
