Kim Kardashian has always been open about her fertility struggles. In interviews, blog posts, and on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the reality star has revealed her desire for a third child, and how past health complications would make conceiving difficult. After a long year of consulting doctors and looking into her options, Kardashian revealed on the show that she would look into surrogacy. And on Wednesday, multiple sources reported that she had hired a surrogate. (Neither Kardashian nor her husband, Kanye West, have confirmed the reports yet; Bustle has reached out to their reps for comment, but has not yet received a response.) Kardashian's reported decision was largely met with support, but some unfairly criticized the star online. Seriously? It's Kardashian's life and body, and she should be free to make her own choices. Luckily, many defended her online, and this one tweet about the issue got it so right.

The tweet reads:

All the shaming of @KimKardashian for hiring a surrogate is just sad. Good for her, first two pregs were hard on her & it's her decision

Kardashian has been super transparent about the health difficulties she faced during her last two pregnancies. In a candid blog post, she shared how she had suffered from preeclampsia, which raises blood pressure during pregnancy and puts both mother and child at higher risks for complications. She also suffered from placenta accreta, which is when the placenta is buried in the uterine wall and doesn't come out during birth. Both of these health issues meant that having a third child would be high-risk.

On the most recent season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kardashian discussed the surgery that she'd had to try and make a third pregnancy possible. The surgery was ultimately unsuccessful, and the star was forced to look into other options. This was when she started seriously considering surrogacy.

"After talking to Kanye, I think that I always knew that surrogacy was an option, but I didn't think it was that realistic of an option," she said during one of the episodes. "Now, I feel like that's my reality."

It's clear that Kardashian did everything she could to try and make a third pregnancy possible, and it's almost cruel of people to fault her for exploring other options. However, even if she hadn't undergone these treatments, which were exhaustive and often invasive, she still would have every right to pursue surrogacy as an option for family planning. Like the tweet above says, "it's her decision" — and that's really all it comes down to.

There are many reasons why someone might not be able to conceive, and yet there is still such a stigma around options like surrogacy and adoption. That's why it's so powerful for someone with a platform as big as Kardashian to tell these personal stories. On KUWTK, she was able to share what an emotional journey trying to conceive has been. It's not a narrative that is shared often enough in the mainstream media.

The fact that people felt the need to criticize Kardashain just proves how entitled people feel to weigh in on women's choices, especially when it comes to reproduction. Luckily, Kardashian fans were ready to shut down these critiques on Twitter. They know that she is free to make any choice she wants as far as the future of her fam.
