The 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards have expanded this year to honor the best in movies and TV, which includes singling out the host with the most. With so many awesome hosts around, it's a tough category, but one definitely stood out. Trevor Noah won Best Host at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards on May 7, dedicating the award to his mother. Noah accepted the popcorn trophy award at the Sunday night ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, saying in his speech that his mother Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah inspires him every day. "She is a powerful, strong black woman who didn't listen when they told me she couldn't be more," he said in his acceptance speech.

For those who might not know, Noah's mother raised him during apartheid in South Africa, where Noah grew up half-white and half-black in a time where interracial relationships were illegal. Noah has performed stand up about it and written about it in his memoir Born A Crime. Noah continued: "I couldn't be a best host without a best show," and he thanked his staff at The Daily Show. Noah also mentioned another important name in his acceptance speech: "Thank you to Donald J. Trump for the comedy."

Winners of the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards were determined by fan vote via MTV.com and the Best Host category had plenty of tough competition: Ellen DeGeneres for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, John Oliver for Last Week Tonight, RuPaul for RuPaul's Drag Race, and Samantha Bee for Full Frontal. DeGeneres and RuPaul are long-time hosts of their respective TV shows. Meanwhile, Bee, Oliver, and Noah are relative newcomers to the late night TV landscape, but they have made their mark with their respective wit and candor during the 2016 presidential election.

Noah took over The Daily Show from longtime host Jon Stewart in 2015 and this award indicates that South African comedian has been doing well behind that famous desk.
