Rey And Kylo Ren's Bios Got A Revealing Update

It's so easy to get hyped up about every little Star Wars update, but sometimes even the littlest things genuinely have meaning. Recently discovered by io9, Kylo Ren and Rey's official Star Wars databases have been updated with two very eyebrow-raising additions. According to Kylo Ren's bio, he has a "mysterious connection" that links him to Rey. And according to Rey's bio she shared a "strange connection" with Kylo Ren. Huh, what is this franchise possibly insinuating about this beaten-to-death connection?

Even before The Force Awakens hit theaters in 2015, people were trying to figure out how Kylo Ren and Rey fit into the Star Wars universe, and how they related to each other. Kylo was figured out immediately as a Solo gone wrong, but Rey's lineage was kept a mystery. If they were repeating the Skywalker tradition of twinning (or even just being regular old siblings), surely it would have been acknowledged when Leia set eyes on Rey, right? No?

This small addition definitely suggests that all those weird lingering shots suggests they do have a tie, and it resurrects all those old theories, including being long lost siblings. Of course, the other popular theory is that Rey is Luke's daughter, making the two cousins and keeping it still within the Skywalker family tree. But perhaps it's merely a Force thing, and Rey is really descended from Obi-Wan, being... some sort of granddaughter we never knew about. This is one of my favorite theories, because it resurrects a Skywalker-Kenobi showdown, but I just don't know when he found the time to get with someone, which is, of course, verboten in the Jedi law.

It's all very vague, but on a base level, I think this is strongly insinuating that Rey is connected to someone in the immediate Star Wars family. Which was always a safe assumption, but there have been theories that Rey is really just a rando, perhaps selected immaculately by the Force just like Anakin was. I think this is a subtle way of showing that no, there is something tying her to the pre-existing story, and that something lies within Kylo. More importantly, this sneaky addition means that whatever that something is, it's very likely to be revealed in The Last Jedi to parallel the Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker plot twist is in The Empire Strikes Back.

...Or not. It could just mean that Disney wants to tease us until the very last chapter. But fans are nonetheless eager to see what's revealed in Episode VIII, hitting theaters December 17.
