There is a new romantic success story to come out of Bachelor in Paradise. Contestants Derek Peth and Taylor Nolan got engaged during the taping of the BiP after show, and as two career-oriented people, it's not surprising their values aligned. Taylor's work as mental health counselor was talked about often when she appeared on The Bachelor, but her Derek's job outside of Bachelor in Paradise has hardly been talked about at all.

In the real world, Derek works as a commercial banker, and before starring on The Bachelorette he worked on Wall Street. It's unclear if he will return to finance post-BiP, but banking is his field of expertise and it's possible he could apply those skills elsewhere.

Derek, who was a contestant on JoJo Fletcher's season, and Taylor, who competed for Nick Viall's heart, connected immediately on BiP, but their romance wasn't without a few obstacles. Close to the end of the season the couple got in a big fight that briefly made Taylor question things. In the end, they made up, their love overcame, and the two ultimately got engaged.

On her original season, Taylor had recently finished graduate school and was working as a counselor. But after the show aired, she told Us Weekly her time on the show affected her career, especially when it came to finding balance between her new reality TV fame and her work. She did say that she is still passionate about mental healthcare and hopes to resume practice after things quiet down.

Derek and Taylor share in their desire to help others. While Taylor is passionate about working as a counselor, Derek has shown a personal interest in charity work. After appearing on JoJo's season, he committed himself to helping survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The effort was dedicated to his best friend Mark's sister Brenda, with whom he was also close, who lost her life to suicide. "She had worked very closely for years with women that had been victims of domestic violence, domestic assault, and sexual assault, so it was a very important thing to her," Derek told Bustle in July 2016.

This interest in doing good wasn't new for Derek. In his original ABC bio, he wrote that his favorite historical figure was Ben Franklin because, "He was able to view the world with childlike wonder to feed his creative/inventive side and balance that with a work ethic that produced massive shifts for the greater good." In the future, it's possible that the contestant could shift his attention from banking to more charitable pursuits, though he hasn't yet made an announcement if he intends to do so.

Outside of his work life, Derek has a lot of hobbies. He's musical, and both sings and plays guitar. While he hasn't added a new song for a couple years, he used to update a YouTube channel with videos of him playing covers. Like many stars in the Bachelor family, he enjoys outdoor fitness like hiking and surfing. He's also a self-proclaimed nerd, and enjoys dorky movies. While Derek might have spent his early-career as a banker, it seems like he pursued many interests off the clock.

If Derek and Taylor get married, it will be the third BiP marriage in the last couple of years. In June, former contestants Evan Bass and Carly Waddell tied the knot during the series' premiere, and Jade Roper and Tanner Colbert wed in a television special that aired after their season. Given their shared goals and clear chemistry, it's possibly that the next season will kick off with Derek and Taylor's wedding.
