Bill Paxton's Death Was Unexpected

Early Sunday, beloved actor Bill Paxton passed away. In a statement, the star's family revealed that Paxton died suddenly due to complications from surgery. However, the actor had not opened up publicly about any illness, so what surgery Paxton was having when he died was unknown, and it's unclear whether or not Paxton had been struggling with his health.

Paxton had an illustrious acting career, starring in numerous acclaimed films, television shows, and music videos. While perhaps most recognizable for his roles in Titanic and Aliens, the 61-year-old actor was prolific. Most recently, he starred in the CBS drama Training Day alongside Justin Cornwell. Paxton's son James was slated to appear on the show, a cameo Paxton told People he was excited for. It's unclear what will become of the CBS show in the wake of Paxton's death.

In recent years, Paxton's acting career had not seemed to slow down. This makes his passing all the more unexpected, and at this time it isn't clear whether or not the actor was experiencing any health issues. However, the actor did mention to People that he had undergone another surgical procedure last year. "I loved watching Stranger Things with my daughter,” Paxton told the magazine in early February. “But I had surgery last spring and binge-watched all of Downton Abbey while I was recuperating. I got so engrossed in it, I was devastated when I got to the end.”

The actors' family informed the media of his passing in a statement to TMZ. “It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” the statement reads. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”

The family understandably wants the actor's private life to be respected, so there may be few answers in the future about his cause of death. Nevertheless, fans will be mourning Paxton's death greatly.
