The Oscars are Hollywood's biggest event of the year, and it's usually safe to assume that all the nominees will appear to take part in the ceremony. However, that also means when someone doesn't show up, it's a big deal. So, it's no surprise that a lot of viewers are asking where Natalie Portman is during the 2017 Oscars. Despite being nominated for best actress for her role in Jackie, she didn't appear at the 2017 Oscar red carpet. While her absence is felt, Portman told The Hollywood Reporter that she decided taking care of herself during her pregnancy was a more important cause than the Oscars, and it's hard to disagree. As her statement to the outlet said:

Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards. I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends."

Portman's nomination for Jackie wouldn't be her first time at the ceremony, and it'd probably be hard for Portman to have a better Oscars than 2011 when she took home the award for Best Actress for her role in Black Swan. Although Portman's presence on the red carpet and during the ceremony is missed, it's good to know that Portman is dedicating time to taking care of herself.
