Skittles Introduced 5 New Flavors For Valentine’s Day & You’re Gonna Want Them In Your Life

by Brittany Bennett

We have all tasted the rainbow, and now it's time to taste the love. Whether you have a candlelit dinner reserved or a string of romantic comedies queued up for Feb. 14, candy is a welcomed third wheel or dependable date. Lucky for all of us hopeless romantics, Skittles has introduced five new flavors and honestly, Valentine's Day has never been sweeter. No love story, not even The Notebook's Noah and Allie, can be as magnetic as the bond between girl and candy aisle.

The fondest memories of Valentine's Day are those that include food. The holiday certainly has a parade of haters marching against it, but nobody — whether you claim the holiday nonsense or embrace the cheesiness — can argue with the candy aisle. Candy aisles straight up become tunnels of love as shelves burst with pink and red packaging. You don't need to be paired up to engage in a sweet shopping spree. Pack your basket with romance — I mean, your favorite candies that have been transformed, under the power of love, into pinker versions of themselves. If you're looking for a reliable date this Valentine's Day, the perfect gift or just want to indulge in some self-love candy snacking now, Target's candy aisle/tunnel of love is stocked with these new treats.

Just like all other bags of Skittles, the newly designed bags stands out. The pink wrapping is cotton-candy shaded and freckled in hearts. The sight of the bag alone is like a warm embrace, and we haven't even gotten to the main event yet. Inside, the said main event, is a gathering of Skittles' new flavors. According to Twitter user @candyhunter, who stumbled upon the candy in Target, the newest flavors are: Watermelon, White Grape, Yumberry, Strawberry and Cherry. Watermelon, strawberry and cherry are all welcomed addition to the Skittles family. But it's White Grape and Yumberries that grab my attention.

A White Grape flavor sounds a lot like a glass of Pinot Grigio reduced to little balls of non-alcoholic fun. I'll take it. Cupid's arrow isn't even necessary here to make my eyes go "awooga" for the candy. A Yumberry, in case you were wondering, is not a made up fruit concocted of all the yummiest berries. As explained by the SF Gate, a yumberry is "also known as a red bayberry, is a subtropical fruit native to Asian countries such as China." The berry is reported to be juicy and can be enjoyed fresh or frozen. Or, you know, as a little orb of candy.

You can find these bags of love at Target alongside other treats including Dove Milk Chocolate & Caramel Love Notes, Ghirardelli Valentine’s White Chocolate Crème Brulee, Godiva Cake and Cookie Inspired Chocolates, Hershey’s Cupcake Kisses, Lindt Lindor Red Velvet White Chocolate Truffles, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Love Bugs. If you bring all these candies home for Valentine's Day, combined you will have concocted quite the love mix to indulge in. Who even needs a date? But if you do have a reservation to make, it doesn't hurt to stuff a few of these special candies into your purse. You know, for on-the-way snacking purposes.

I know what I'll be doing to prep for the ~season of love~. I'll be taking a few trips back and forth from my Target to stock up, and "a few trips" will be necessary to be honest. I can go through special edition love themed candy faster than Halloween candy. It's like a love spell, but better, because sugar and chocolate. No matter what your plans are for the 14th of February, these new Skittles flavors are the perfect inclusion for your dates with yourself or your significant other. You can now taste the love and feel it too.
