Eliza Minnick Is Trying To Change 'Grey's'

Mitch Haaseth/ABC

For all of the casting moves and horrific disasters that happen at Grey Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, you’d think that the staff at the hospital would be a little more welcome to change. But no, not this time — right now, Dr. Eliza Minnick is trying to enact some serious change at Grey Sloan, but it’s not going so well. Who is Eliza Minnick on Grey’s Anatomy?

Well, Dr. Minnick is a fixer of sorts — she was called in by Catherine Avery and Dr. Bailey because they saw a pattern of problems in the hospital, namely by doctors who were taught and mentored by Chief Webber. The problem here is that Catherine is married to Webber, and he mentored Bailey, too. Anyway, Minnick is there to revamp the teaching hospital, make it the glorious (and mistake-free) program that it once was. Of course, she is running into some serious opposition from doctors like Jackson, April, and Arizona, who are very loyal to Richard. Did I mention that Minnick is also flirting a little with Arizona? Yeah, this is complicated already, and it’s going to get even more complicated when Richard finds out that his wife is partially behind overthrowing his control of the teaching hospital. That’s not Minnick’s fault, per se, but she’s going to get caught in the crosshairs there.

So far, the attendings at Grey Sloan are not letting Minnick into their surgeries and the like, so I think she’s going to have a hard time getting through to them. They see her as a usurper to Richard’s power, and perhaps Bailey and Catherine should have thought of that before bringing in someone from the outside. This could have been arranged just a tad better, don’t you think? And let’s face it — Arizona is not going to sleep with someone who has just overthrown her chief.
