Who Plays Mantis in 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2'? The Character Is A Major Standout
With only a few days left before the highly anticipated release of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, fans everywhere are eager to see if the second installment in the franchise can live up to the hype of the action-packed thrill GOTG is known to be. In this new sequel, a character named Mantis makes her debut and proves that this new movie is one not to miss. Mantis can sense emotions in a truly unique way. and those obsessed with the character will also soon be obsessed with the actor who plays Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The antennae-clad character is played by actor Pom Klementieff. You may be able to recognize Mantis from 1973's Avengers No. 112 where she's revealed to be the Celestial Madonna. Additionally, she is meant to become the Celestial Messiah, aka “the most important being in the universe.” Her powers include telepathy, martial arts and changing emotions. Talk about a major role for an actor to take on, right? GotG 2 executive producer, Jonathan Schwartz told Entertainment Weekly that Mantis pulls all of her social cues from the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
“Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”
The actor who plays Mantis, Klementieff, is a 30-year-old Quebec native born to a French-Russian father and Korean mother. She has starred in Spike Lee's 3013 remake of Old Boy and she's currently filming for Avengers: Infinity War. In an interview with Screen Rant, she shared her excitement about joining the Marvel Universe for GotG 2, saying,
"It’s amazing! I feel really lucky and really happy. I’m really happy to work with James, he’s a wonderful human being. He has a big heart, and he created something really beautiful and really badass and fun and cool. It’s a beautiful story."
It will be interesting to see how Mantis blends in with the rest of the Guardians in a sequel poised to make over $150 million in box office sales. We'll just have to wait and see.
