ModCloth Is Completely Shutting Down On Black Friday & Here's The Reason Why

by Shea Simmons

People love sales whether it's BOGO, half-off, or deep discounts. You name it, and people want it. Everyone likes saving money while indulging their inner shopaholic, and no day is more synonymous with shopping than Black Friday. However, ModCloth isn't getting in on the hype this year. Modcloth's 2017 Black Friday Sale is about feels over steals. What does that mean? It means the purveyor of some of the cutest clothes on the internet won't actually be participating in the shopping soiree by offering intense discounts or free shipping. The retailer is actually doing something much more worthwhile.

For their Black Friday sale, ModCloth will be going dark. Yes, you read that right. The website is shutting down for the day and breaking up with the sale happy holiday. Why? To help others. On Nov. 24, the ModCloth site will shut down and the brand will be donating over $5 million worth of merchandise to Dress For Success, an organization that provides professional attire and development to women seeking to achieve economic independence. While the site could run sale upon sale like many other brands, everyone's favorite retailer for cat-themed goods, vintage clothes, and adorable accessories is working to help support women. Of course, giving merchandise to Dress for Success isn't the only thing ModCloth is doing for Black Friday.

As part of their Black Friday Breakup campaign, ModCloth is also encouraging their customers to get involved. While the site is down on Nov. 24, fans can take to their social media page and nominate someone they know who is doing good in the world and who deserves recognition.

ModCloth plans to award participants with up to $4,500 for their organization or cause.

To enter, post a picture or video to Instagram or Twitter during the week of Black Friday and explain why your nominee deserves to win the cash. Once that's done, tag ModCloth and add the hashtags #BlackFridayBreakup and #ModClothGivingContest.

Poof! Like magic, you're done. If you nominee is chosen, ModCloth will make that call on Nov. 27.

If you're suddenly bummed that you won't be able to snag some adorable Christmas socks or the perfect holiday party dress from ModCloth on Black Friday, never fear. The online retailer is, of course, having a Cyber Monday sale. That means 30 percent off sitewide complete with free shipping.

In even better news? The Cyber Monday deals actually begin on Sunday, Nov. 26 and extend until Tuesday, Nov. 28. Who doesn't love more chances to shop?

The biggest takeaway from the ModCloth's Cyber Monday and Black Friday sales? The retailer is committed to giving back to charity but also making sure that their customers get the deals they're seeking. Whether you're looking to buy the perfect gift for someone in your life or want to nominate your very charitable and compassionate best friend, ModCloth is giving you both options.

Start brainstorming your giving friends and family now to nominate them for the ModCloth Giving Contest — and mark your calendar for Cyber Monday. Not only will you grab a killer deal, but you'll also be able to shopping a retailer who you know cares about others.

That's a win-win for everyone.
