How old do you have to be before September stops feeling like back-to-school season? 50? 80? It might last forever. For me, as soon as I feel that cool, early fall breeze, I’m practically overcome with “just got a new planner” energy. Without a hefty class load to direct my efforts toward, that new beginnings vibe usually ends being spent on my social life. There’s not a day in September that I’m sitting still, and if you feel the same way, Bustle’s latest monthly events calendar is for you.
This month’s edition of “Your Month IRL” covers all the bases. For sports enthusiasts, there’s the U.S. Open and NFL games to look forward to. For the musically-inclined, there are concerts and festivals going on across the country. And no matter where you are, there are plenty of hot new releases, from long-awaited reality TV premieres to even longer-awaited novels, that are simply not to be missed if you want to keep up with the convo at your next girls’ night. September is looking to be one exciting month. Write that in your planner.

September 1 - 13
The U.S. Open is the place to be this September, whether you’re a tennis fan, a celeb-spotting aficionado, or a cocktail enthusiast who has always dreamed of sipping on a Honey Deuce during a game. This year, the nearly two-week long tournament will see star athletes like defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Novak Djokovic face off — plus, the return of Venus and Serena Williams playing doubles.
September 9
Football season officially kicks off on September 9, when the New England Patriots face off against the Sea Hawks in Seattle, but you don’t have to score tickets to the game to get into the spirit. There’s no better excuse to head to your local sports bar, or invite some pals over for pigs-in-a-blanket.
September 10
MomTok is back, and somehow, more dramatic than ever. Secret Lives of Mormon Wives makes it’s long-awaited return to streaming, dropping all five episodes of the truncated fifth season on Hulu on Sept. 10. Yes, I’m suggesting you grab your most reality TV-obsessed friends for a marathon viewing — sourdough bread and dirty soda bar recommended, but not required.
September 11
Brat summer might be officially declared over, but the infectious energy lives on. Charli’s rock era is here, and she’s bringing the party on tour. On Sept. 11, the singer makes the first stop of the Music, Fashion, Film tour in Philly, before heading to New York City, Boston, and Washington D.C. Be sure to grab tickets before they’re gone.
September 22
Before BookTok, there was Book Tumblr — and this one’s for them. On Sept. 22, John Green, the author of The Fault In Our Stars, Looking For Alaska, and lots of other books that made you cry on the bus to school, is releasing his first adult fiction novel, Hollywood Ending. Keep in touch with your roots, and line up early in the morning at Barnes & Noble to get your hands on it ASAP (or just preorder it here).
September 29
According to my calendar, this is a holiday. This year, National Coffee Day falls on Sept. 29, and with it comes a slew of deals from your favorite chains, and even local shops. Keep track of potential and confirmed discounts here, and get your money’s worth on this very special day.
