Runner Ashley Henderson Prefers Talking Failures To Talking Successes

by Erin Kelly

What do you do when you fall short of your dream?

If you’re Ashley Henderson, you put your head down and work harder. The track star was heartbroken after not making the Olympic team for the 200-meter race in 2016. But she wasn’t disheartened.

“[The experience] made me want to try harder,” Henderson says. “But it also made me more confident that I can do it again — this time, without any surprises.”

Henderson’s hard work has been paying off. In 2018, her 100-meter dash broke the 11-second barrier, staking her claim as the one of the fastest women on the planet. Now, the athlete continues to work day in and out — even though the Olympics have been postponed.

“Today, I don’t know how fast I am, and that intrigues me,” she tells Bustle. “That’s what keeps me going — ultimately, I just want to see what my full potential is.”
