Highlighters are right up there with matte lippies and unicorn makeup and hair as some of the top beauty trends of 2017. Chrissy Teigen is doing a BECCA highlighter palette, which also includes blush and bronzer spread over four pans. Urban Decay will drop its After Glow Palette via Ulta on Sunday, June 4. It's beyond wise for the brand to get in on this trend, since that fresh, "POW!" glow is on cheeks everywhere this year. But this highligher palette is super surprising for a very specific reason.
Basically, in terms of presentation and to my eyes, the After Glow palette doesn't look like something UD would do, since the design and the shades are simple and pretty and the brand is known for being ballsy and edgy. If I saw this without the brand's logo, I would never think it was a UD product.
Judging from the comments accompanying the image posted on the Ulta Insta, After Glow reminds fans more of BECCA or e.l.f. or Huda Beauty.
While some Beauty Junkies noted that it was a different look for UD, many others cannot wait to get their hands on this and start swiping their cheeks with this baby so their glow can communicate with the satellites. This also reminds me of the NAKED Ultimate Basics palette packaging.
After Glow Palette, $34, Urban Decay
I think the After Glow shades have a Californian sunset vibe and it’s lovely. But it's not what I normally expect from the brand and I consider myself a card-carrying Beauty Junkie. That said, AG is also cool because it might expose the brand to a more mainstream consumer that isn't normally magnetically attracted to UD's amazing aesthetic and high quality wares.
Also, if you are an Urban Decay diehard who loves the brand's dark and gothic side, you can totally dig the After Glow shade names — Bliss is softly golden, Peroxide is pink, NSFW is a peachy coral, and Side Piece is a more shimmery gold. Plus, it's UD. You know the texture and pigmentation will be straight fire. The brand is incapable of disappointing in terms of product quality.
Here is a sampling of comments. The Internet is a bit of a house divided over this palette.
Look — more reactions spanning the spectrum of emotion!
I am thinking the Internet and Beauty Junkies will be here for After Glow when it exclusively lands at Ulta stores and its site next month.
