If you are a cat lover, you're going to die for this cat-friendly event in NYC this weekend! Purina ONE is hosting the first ever Cat Camp in order to bring cat lovers and owners together to learn about cat wellness. The camp will focus on fostering whole body health for your beloved cat. The idea is for cat lovers and owners to come together in order to learn more about cat wellness — and have one heck of a good time, of course.
Purina ONE hosted a popular Cat Cafe pop-up shop last year that was so popular, they decided to create another fun cat-themed event. “We had such a great response to last year’s Cat Café, so this year we wanted to provide activities that would help educate people on whole body health, and there isn’t a better way to do that this summer than a camp-like experience," said Brian Williams, Brand Manager for Purina ONE, in a press release.
Cat Camp will take place indoors in an open event space at 201 Mulberry Street New York's SoHo neighborhood — and to prepare, the space is currently getting a cat-themed makeover. Cat Camp will also be taking place over Friday and Saturday, so you can decide which day is more convenient for you to go cat-ping (get it?). The days' events will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., providing an entire day of fun. Because seriously, what's better than camping with a cat? Just make sure you get there early — the Cat Cafe had lines running down the block.
If you're not in New York but still want to get in on the fun, you'll be able to watch a live stream of Cat Camp on Periscope through Purina ONE's Twitter feed, @PurinaONECat. From a behind-the-scenes look at the event's creation to live Cat Cams that will show real cats partaking in the camp activities, it's sure to be a good time. They've also created the hashtag #ONECatCamp that you're invited to use to document your participating in the event.
Oh, and here's the most important bit: Cat Camp will also be helping shelter cats to find loving homes. Cats from a Petfinder partner shelter will be roaming about the "campgrounds" during the entire event, and each of them is adoptable. Because there's nothing better than a bunch of adorable kitties finding their forever homes — or humans finding the best friends they didn't know they were missing.
If you're dying to know what kinds of activities will available for your cat to partake in at Cat Camp, here's a rundown of the events:
1. A Campfire
No camping experience is complete without a campfire! Cat Camp will have a massive "campfire" in the middle of the event space — but it won't be a real fire, of course. Rather, it will be a fire-like sculpture made of Purina ONE kibble. While the cats chow down, veterinarian Deborah S. Greco will be teaching you how to examine your furry buddy for signs of whole body health.
2. A Climbing Wall
Cat owners will be given a chance to climb an indoor climbing wall in order to better understand the reasons why cats love to be up high. Because those little guys are serious climbers.
3. Cat Play Time
You'll get the opportunity to play with shelter cats while a behavioral expert educates you on how to incorporate physical activity and mental stimulation into your cats life. If you want to adopt a cat, make sure to frequent this station!
4. Cat-Inspired Stretching
If you've ever wanted to wake up in the relaxing way that your cat often will after a good nap, Cat Camp consolers will be guiding campers through a series of cat-inspired stretches to work your muscles.
5. Arts & Crafts
No summer camp is complete without doing arts and crafts! Cat Camp participants will get to make a puzzle feeder to use with their cat(s) at home, so that you can have a memento to remember your experience and give your cat a really cool present.
