Does Liz Like Austin On 'Big Brother 17'? This Showmance May Be DOA
With each passing day, the showmance between Liz and Austin on Big Brother 17 becomes sadder and sadder. It's bad enough that Austin's gameplay is affected by their relationship, and now we have to witness his heart getting broken too. As oblivious as Austin was to the fact that the girl he liked was actually two completely different people, he seems even more oblivious to the fact that Liz just doesn't feel as strongly for him as he does for her. This showmance is so odd, it's good to take a deeper look into what's going on and determine, once and for all, how Liz feels about Austin.
Austin Matelson entered the Big Brother house completely denying a showmance was even possible because of his commitment to his girlfriend. Slowly, this commitment went from shaky to non-existent. First, Austin said they agreed to an "open-ended thing" for his time on the show. Lately, though, he's been making it seem as if they essentially broke up. Just this past weekend, he was talking to Vanessa about how they had a huge fight right before he got word from BB about joining this season's cast. Whatever his deal is, one thing is now clear: By his own admission, he is falling in love with Liz.
What are you doing, Austin? Can't you see how your heart and your game are both on the line here?
Although Liz didn't enter the house with a boyfriend, her feelings about Austin were unclear at the start. Vanessa kept asking her where she stood, urging her to pick a side, and it didn't take long for us to see that the side she picked was showmancing Austin. Liz did tell Vanessa that she liked Austin, but the more time they spent together, the less that seemed to be true. Now, Julia, Vanessa, Shelli, probably everyone in the house whose name is not Austin can clearly see that Liz is just not that into him.
Speaking of Vanessa... She is at least partly to blame for this sad, sad situation. As she's comforted and encouraged Austin, she has also talked to Liz about keeping up this front. At first, she was subtle about this, but now she is flat-out telling Liz to keep up the showmancing, despite knowing Austin's true feelings.
Vanessa wins Big Brother strategy points for that, even if it makes my heart hurt. For more on this showmance that never was, check out Bustle's BB17 podcast.
