Zayn & Perrie Breakup Conspiracy Theories

by Maggie Malach

The One Direction fandom has been tweeting in overdrive ever since news broke that Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards ended their engagement. A source confirmed to Us Weekly that the couple split two weeks ago and Edwards is understandably "devastated." While I'll prefer to think of what an adorable couple Edwards and Malik were, Directioners have already taken to coming up with reasons for the split.

However, a source close to Malik told Us Weekly, "He just wanted to move on and start over in all ways." While the exes are reportedly both in Los Angeles, they aren't going to be seeing each other.

"[Edwards has] been putting on a brave face, as Little Mix have had promotion to do, but she's obviously devastated," an insider told PEOPLE. "Perrie's being supported by her bandmates, but she's really in pieces about this."

Malik and Edwards' relationship has been the subject of much debate, especially following their engagement in 2013. Back in March, Malik blasted the haters, tweeting, "I'm 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there's a lot of jealous f***s in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like x." Given the spotlight on the couple, it's no surprise that the fans immediately chimed in with their theories behind the breakup. While some of them make sense, others are a little more strange.

Malik Has No Chill

Well, this fits in with the theory that he wants a fresh start.

Malik And Edwards Were Too Young

At only 22, they are young, but that doesn't make the feelings any less real.

Zerrie Broke Up So Ziam Could Happen

All of the Malik and Liam Payne shippers have been waiting for this.

They Only Dated To Promote Little Mix

While it's doubtful, this isn't the first time fans have suggested the relationship was a sham.

It's Not Really Over

Here's hoping that it's all a huge mistake.

One Direction And Malik Are Competing

It's hard to tell which singer has the most dramatic news.

Malik Is Returning To One Direction

Again, this is pretty doubtful, but I suppose that's always a possibility.
