9 White Shoes To Wear After Labor Day

by Stephanie Chon

Some might consider Labor Day the beginning of the fall fashion season while others don't really care at all and will continue to wear whatever they feel like wearing—white or not. If you're a believer in the latter, here are some white shoes to wear after Labor Day. If you're worried about that age-old rule that says you can't wear white after Labor Day, take what you know and throw it out the window. I mean, do you even know where that rule comes from!? Here's a quick summary.

According to Time, historians speculate that this rule was "invented" in the early 20th century when upper-class Americans would put away their expensive vacation wardrobe made up of white linen and Panama hats in exchange for fall's darker, heavier clothing. Those who weren't well-to-do decided to follow suit, because if they didn't, it'd be a dead giveaway that they weren't part of the "elite society." Sounds pretty, pretty stupid, no? In our day and age, where self-expression through style has become fairly liberal, it seems like a pretty outdated and silly rule now, IMHO.

Plus, even when that rule was current, Coco Chanel still wore white all year-round. What a boss b*tch. On that note, feel free to wear whatever you're vibin' on Labor Day this year, especially when it comes to your kicks. After getting some outfit inspo from my girl Jenn Im, I will definitely be rocking a pair of white shoes way past Labor Day.
