Christina Aguilera Fans Will Relate To This

by Jennifer Still

I think we can all agree by now that the '90s was the best decade for pop music — in fact, it was the best decade for pretty much all genres of music, depending on who you ask. The pop world gave us the likes of Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, and my personal favorite, Christina Aguilera. An incredibly powerful singer with attitude and amazing music, to boot? Sign me up! I loved Christina so hard, from 'Genie In A Bottle', right on up through "Lady Marmalade", after which I fell off the Aguilera train, I'm ashamed to admit. But that doesn't make my love any less meaningful!

If, like me, you spent much of the late '90s/early 2000s feeling "too dirrty to clean your act up" (though admittedly, that phase came a little later), then it's likely you went through some of the things I did as an Aguilera fan. I mean, she literally had me feeling like I was going to be the next big pop star and we were going to be BFF and do pop duets and it was going to be awesome. That didn't happen, but I still look back on that time — and early Aguilera — with a great fondness.

You Learned All The Moves To The 'Dirrty' Video

When Christina became Xtina and came out with 'Dirrty', we were all a little been scandalized and a whole lot inspired. The leather chaps and bikini top, the weird rodeo vibe, the choreography... it was all brilliant. Don't act like you didn't get your friends in the living room and practice that dance until you had it down perfectly. We all did it.

You Memorised All The Lyrics To Every Song On Mi Reflejo

I was only 12 when Christina's Spanish language album, Mi Reflejo, came out, so I definitely wasn't bilingual just yet. OH WELL, didn't keep me from buying the album and phonetically learning every word to every song. You did that, too, right?

You Truly Thought You Were Going To Be The Next American Idol

For some reason, singing so many Christina Aguilera songs likely made you believe that you were going to be a famous singer just like her. Since American Idol was at its height at the time, you probably considered auditioning so that you could take your place beside her on the Grammy stage.

Mulan Was Your Favourite Movie Because Christina Does The Theme Song

I mean, Mulan was great on its own, but "Reflection" made it even better. It was a beautiful and empowering track for teen girls everywhere, and even listening to it these days makes me a little teary-eyed. I can't help it!

You Wanted To Become A Burlesque Dancer Because Of "Lady Marmalade"

You were too young to really even understand what burlesque even stood for or what it was about, but that didn't keep you from wanting to take classes so that you could reenact the "Lady Marmalade" video in its full glory.
